Retro Game Night art show!

This Saturday at the Piranha Gallery there will be an amazing line up of talented artists paying tribute to old school, quarter gulping arcade games we all know and love!
Please come and have a good time.

Here is my art contribution.A mash up of the beautifully animated Don Bluth game Dragon's Lair ( 1983) w/ master fantasy artist Frank Frazetta's Conan the Barbarian painting as inspiration.

Prints will be available for sale at the show or via email on this blog.

Commander Rann.
Explorer of the Microverse and leader of the Micronauts.

One thousand years ago, Commander Arcturus Rann set out on a voyage to explore the Microverse. While his conscious mind spent a thousand years in suspended animation, his subconscious made contact with the Enigma Force. At intervals, astral copies of Rann would appear and become new Time Travelers. Some of them became Shadow Priests, who set up churches devoted to worship of Dallan and Sepsis (Rann's royal parents). All this activity prepared Rann to confront Baron Karza when he returned home. At the proper moment, the Shadow Priests shed their disguises and reunited with Rann, giving him the power to defeat Karza.

Acroyer of the Micronauts.

Acroyear was crown prince of the ebony-skinned race whose name he bore. For a time, Acroyear's people served Karza under the mind control of Shaitan, Acroyear's traitorous, albino brother. To help defeat Baron Karza, Acroyear sacrificed the Worldmind of his home planet Spartak, thus rendering it incapable of supporting life. For this, he was branded a traitor and cast out by his people while his bonded mate Cilicia ruled as regent. Acroyear vowed to redeem himself and traveled with the Micronauts, most of whom are also outcasts. Stoic in battle yet hospitable to his comrades, Acroyear did not believe it weakness for a warrior to express his feelings to those he loved. He confided in the Micronauts and his complex warrior philosophy often served as spiritual nourishment to his fellow Micronauts. Acroyear hoped to make his people understand that a warrior need not become as cold as the steel they wield in battle. But Acroyear fought alone as his race chose neutrality in the war against Karza.

Princess Mari of Homeworld, along with her brother, Prince Argon, were the only survivors of the slaughtered figurehead royal family just before Rann's return. They had the hapless job of initiating rebellion against Baron Karza. Argon, who became Force Commander after his alteration in Karza's Body Banks, eventually died after being temporary host for a resurrected Karza. Marionette called the Micronauts family and Commander Rann her love. She served as nominal leader of the Micronauts during a brief, trying period when a demoralized Commander Rann removed himself from active duty following a major defeat. Strong-willed and independent while still warm and generous, she showed no mercy to those who willingly served Karza's evil. But she would risk her life to persuade any who serve Karza because they saw no other hope that there was an alternative. Her hand of friendship brought one of Karza's former creatures, Huntarr, into the fold.

Here's the attempt.

My first skate deck for a friend's birthday.
I was given free artistic merit to draw something "cool".

There is a tradition amongst this group of friends to put their dogs image on a skate deck proudly and lovingly.
I was commissioned to decorate this one w/ sharpie, which as a medium on a gloss board was a little unforgiving...I had flashbacks of being 18yrs old all over again w/ the subject matter and the sharpies limitations.
I would have loved to put in more time and the process kind of felt like tattooing a bit w/ transfers, the type, etc.

It was a good time and that chihuahua is something else.
Bit the hell out of my knee and still goes for me every time I see him!

MUPPET RAWKS 2 Pics are up!

It was a great show and a great turnout at Ouchmyeye last Saturday! Lawrence Ruelos did a bang up job and it was a real eye opener helping out and seeing how much work getting one of these events takes when trying to get it off the ground.
We were lucky enough in all the hustle and bussle to have some keen eyed photographers show up and capture the moment.
My good friend and fellow artist, Lara, managed to take pics of most if not all the pieces, so a tip of the hat to her!

MUPPET RAWKS 2 !

This Saturday will be the opening night for Muppet Rawk 2 at Ouch My Eye Gallery in Seattle, WA.
There will also be prints for sale of most of the pieces the night of the opening.This month, Seattle's EMP will also have a huuuuge Jim Henson exhibit. The exhibition features 100 original artworks, including drawings, cartoons and storyboards that illustrate Henson’s talent as a storyteller and visionary. That exhibit will be up from May 23rd-August 16th. That is a definite DO NOT MISS exhibit. Can't wait to check that out.Well, I just handed you a double dosage of Muppets that you will be able to check out this month if you're in Seattle.

First a big thanks to the Sir Augustine of Pagan for the sharing of his booth. I had a great time and a bit of a wake up call as to what the peeps want to see from artists.I appreciated the local support and was super stoked to see familiar faces from then and now...Mentors,fellow coworkers/friends, thank you for the love and kind words, folks.

Met and interacted with a lot of people I really admire and were big influences.

Alberto Ruiz-Super cool nice guy and talented like nobody else I know.

Doug Sneyd-Famous Playboy artist of 45 years ( legend).

Adam Hughes-Managed to look up and grunt, while being swamped with commission work.

Eric Canete-Was just there as a fan, but I turned the tables and told him I was a fan of his work.

Super nice guy.His art is bursting off the page with intense energy.Amazing artist.

Mike Mignola was the signing machine and he did it with great humility for two days.

The CHAMP gave back to the folks who line his pockets fer sure.

So many others, but its all geek speak, so I will spare you.

A BIG THANK YOU to my lovey for all her help and support. She really gave me the time and help to make it all possible and is my #1 fan of what I do. A lucky guy doesn't even begin to describe it.

It's time for the fourth Art Jam down in good ol' Georgetown. show. This Saturday, local artists from near and far will come together to create live art that will then be sold that night at the bar.

There will be the usual band of artists creating new art, and as usual, the jams will be pumping all night long. Also, for those of you that haven't been to the the 9lb Hammer in awhile, it's been supersized! That means more room for art, and more room for drinkers. If you're unfamiliar with Art Jam, check out some of the old shows here, here, and here.

Anyway, that's the scoop.

Its that time for Emerald City Comicon. I'll be in Artist Alley with prints to sell and a sketchbook that has been a long time coming.It wouldn't have been possible, except for the gracious and talented artist that goes by Augie Pagan who has given me space in his booth. Augie will have some AMAZING art to show in the form of prints for sale that will put a smile on yer face and say, "Oh heck yeah! This guys knows how to have fun with art!" If you don't know him yet, get familiar with him over at http://theaugblog.blogspot.com/ and say hi to our neighbor Edward Pun as well.

I will have five high quality prints made by Chromaworks for sale.They all vary in size and subject matter, but are all crowd pleasers. As for my sketchbook, it's a whopping 43 pages of black and white art and was a blast to make and, I hope, a blast to look at and own.

The Emerald City show looks to be another huge blow out with tons of great guests. Adam Hughes, Adi Granov,Joseph Michael Linser are just a few of the top knotch talent coming...

So, come on down April 4th -5th and show some love for local talented folks like us.We are the small fish in the big pond, but we promise you good art and a good time!

the Batman

This storyboard practice was based on a chapter from DC Comic's Batman comic issue #400.
Having had to have this done quickly to prove my chops, I chose a portion of that comic to board out and still make sense without having to rely on the grand scope of the entire issue. It had a great pacing by the great Joe Kubert and was economically swift in moving that part of the story along without being dull.

At Monolith we created a new boss for the AVP universe in the form of a winged Alien Empress.
We also improved the design of the AVPPredalien and came up with a Light weight armored Predator (young hunter).

Some of the more dynamic designs came with the revisions of new and old characters.
We were asked to come up with a stealth/sniper suit for the Marines. A suit that Predators could not see using heat vision.It had to look unique and yet retain some of the Marine armor design.
One of the first pieces done for the game was the incubation Alien tubes. I had drawn a v2 type of armor for the marines before we had settled on using the original armor.
The Predator is a design very true to the movie franchise and meant to have a look that the player could identify with from the franchise.
